There are plenty of places online where you can sell your wares. This one is different. We want to help artists have more control over their e-commerce experience by providing a website that has pre-installed, open source software you can customize to your own needs.
How it Works
1. We talk and see if you’re a good fit for selling on Lightnerds.
1a. You pay me a one-time, non-refundable fee of $20 for setup.
1b. Extra options for security can be added on for an additional fee. More on this to follow.
2. You get a subdomain with WordPress installed, using WooCommerce for the e-commerce end of things. Your website would be: yoursubdomain.lightnerd.net
3. You build your own website, using the many resources open source software affords you.
3a. You set up your own payment and shipping methods. We recommend collecting payments via your preferred third-party services, as this ensures that all payment-related data is transmitted on their servers, not ours.
4. You tell the world you have a shop!
What’s The Catch?
Lightnerds has a mission to provide a way for artists to sell online and get paid without any reoccurring listing or service fees. However, as it is our name and our domain, we reserve the right to choose who is allowed to sell here. We will err on the side of caution when it comes to accepting artists.
We don’t want to get rich off of this website, so we seek to cover basic operating expenses only. The one-time $20 fee is reasonable for the amount of work it’ll take on our end to set it up.
Our #1 rule is, don’t be evil. Meaning, we’re seeking decent people who are not out to use this website to steal money from people or as a front for illegal activity.
